Women's Volleyball Falls to Vassar, 3-0

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (11/1/11) – The Kean University women's volleyball team fell to Vassar College in a rescheduled matchup by the final of 3-0 (15-25, 20-25, 22-25). 

The victory improves Vassar to 17-12 on the season while Kean concludes its 2011 campaign at 11-21.

Kean was led by freshman Aysia Peterson with eight kills and rookie Jennifer Espinal with seven. Alana Aranjo had 21 assists and junior Sam Sacco led all players with 11 digs.

Freshman Marie Pitre led Vassar with eight kills and eight digs, with junior Chloe McGuire and Amy Bavosa each with seven. Junior setter Hilary Koenigs had 27 set assists.

Though swept in the match, Kean made the final set closely contested. The Cougars led 10-6 after a Vassar setting error, but back-to-back kills from Bavosa and freshman Clara Cardillo put Vassar ahead 14-12. From that point, Kean hung tough and following a kill by Peterson had the match tied 22-22. A Kean attack error and kills from Koenigs and Pitre earned the Brewers a 25-22 third set win to take the match.
