UNION, N.J. (10/7/16) – The Kean University women's volleyball team dropped both ends of its two-match day against the College of New Rochelle and the Catholic University of America on Friday night.
The Cougars are now 10-8 on the year.
Kean tangled with Catholic first and the Cougars were down 23-17 in the opening set, but rattled off five-straight points with Sara Ridgway serving to get to within one. But CUA recovered and scored the next three points to take the set 25-22. The second set was also a 25-22 final, and the Cardinals were able to pull away with a 25-17 victory in the third to earn the sweep.
Catholic held the Cougars to a .090 attack percentage in the match. The Cardinals were paced by Mary Paige Nesfeder, who had 18 kills and hit .343 in the match.
Brett Harper posted a double-double for Kean with 11 kills and 14 digs against Catholic.
The College of New Rochelle was able to take advantage of the staggered Cougars and also took three sets from their hosts to earn the victory. Both CNR and CUA won their other matches on Friday night as well.
Cristal Liciaga was the star for the Blue Angels with 11 kills on 19 swings.
Ridgway hit .312 to lead Kean in the game, and Brianna Calvano came off the bench to dish out 19 assists in the game while adding six digs.
