Union, N.J. (9/1/18) – The Kean University women's volleyball team picked up two wins in their season opening tournament by defeating Western New England University and Rivier University on Saturday afternoon.
Kean 3, Western New England 1
After dropping the first set, 25-22, the Cougars breezed to a season opening win (25-13, 25-16, 25-13). Jesse Larkin led the match with 19 kills (.444%) with four total blocks. Zoe Strozewski picked up eight kills and Vikki Stec registered seven kills and eight digs.
Jenna McCormack led WNE with a double-double 10 digs and 19 assists in the loss.
Kean 3, Rivier 0
The Cougars cruised in the nightcap to walk away with a straight set win (25-14, 25-19, 25-12). The seniors led the way as Stec finished with a match-high nine kills and five digs while Brett Harper provided eight kills, five digs and four blocks. Andrea Antal hit .538 (eight kills). Larkin added seven blocks to end the day.
Rivier was led by Courtney Collins who had a team-high eight kills (.400).
All five teams (Kean, Western New England, Rivier, Vassar College and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire) will all be in action again on Sunday, beginning at 9:30 am.
