HOBOKEN, N.J. (9/7/18)- The Kean University women's volleyball team split their matches with Plattsburgh State and Stevens on the Opening Day of the Ducks Classic.
Kean 3, Plattsburgh 0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-12)
Andrea Antal finished with a team-high eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage as the Cougars easily dispatched Plattsburgh State with a three-set sweep in their opening match. Vikki Stec and Brett Harper both tallied seven kills apiece, while Jesse Larkin totaled seven aces and four kills.
Michelle Simmons collected eight kills for the Cardinals.
Stevens 3, Kean 2 (25-17, 16-25, 21-25, 25-23, 7-15)
Stec, Larkin, and Harper all totaled double-digit kills as the Cougars dropped a five-set contest to the host Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology.
After taking the first set, Stevens responded with victories in the second and third sets. Kean forced the deciding set after Harper closed out the fourth set with back-to-back kills. In the final set, the Ducks sprinted out to an 11-4 lead and didn't look back.
Stec finished with 15 kills and 11 digs, while Harper tallied 12 kills and 14 digs. Larkin collected 13 kills and a .290 hitting percentage. Brianna Calvano handed out 45 assists and totaled 10 digs.
Shelby Stewart and Taleen Mitchell combined for 21 kills, while Elizabeth Chu finished with 31 digs for the Ducks.
Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 8th, in the Ducks Classic against #22 Swarthmore College at 1:00 p.m. and the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 3:00 p.m.
