Harper Tallies Double-Double as Women’s Volleyball Defeats Montclair State in NJAC Opener

UNION, N.J. (9/11/18)- Brett Harper totaled 10 kills and 21 digs as the Kean University women's volleyball team defeated Montclair State University, 3-1 (25-21, 25-12, 25-15, 25-22) in their New Jersey Athletic Conference season opener.

Jesse Larkin finished with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage for the Cougars who improve to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC. Carly Waterman finished with 10 kills and 14 digs for the Red Hawks who fall to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.

After making a late run to claim the first set, Kean dominated the second set with a .500 hitting percentage and six kills from Harper. MSU didn't go quietly as the Red Hawks dominated the third set and held strong for most of the final set.

In the final set, Kean trailed 22-20 with the momentum in favor of the Red Hawks. The Cougars rallied with five straight points to close the set, including Larkin capping the contest with an ace.

Vikki Stec finished with nine kills and 15 digs, while Cailyn Ross and Zoe Strozewski both totaled eight kills apiece. Brianna Calvano handed out 39 assists, while Kortnee Nelson collected 17 digs.

Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15th, hosting a tri-match against New England College and St Joseph's (L.I.), beginning at 12:00 p.m.
