GALLOWAY, N.J. (10/23/18)- Brett Harper finished with 14 kills and nine digs as the Kean University women's volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller 3-2 (12-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-22, 10-15) to Stockton University on Tuesday evening.
Allie Desmond totaled 22 kills for the Ospreys who improve to 25-6 overall and 8-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Jesse Larkin finished with 11 kills, seven digs, four block assists and two aces for the Cougars who fall to 16-13 overall and 6-2 in the NJAC.
After Stockton ran away with the first set (25-12), Kean responded with a .242 hitting percentage and a 9-5 run to close set two with the 25-22 victory. The Ospreys answered with a .318 hitting percentage and only four errors in a set three victory. In the fourth set, Kean needed a 3-0 run to take the set, 25-22.
In the deciding set, the Cougars rallied from a 4-0 deficit after back-to-back kills by Harper and Zoe Strozewski to take a 5-4 advantage. Stockton turned up the heat and closed the match with an 11-5 run that included four kills from Desmond.
With the victory, the Ospreys capture the regular season title and the top seed in the NJAC Tournament, while the Cougars fall to the third seed and will host a first-round matchup with the sixth seed William Paterson University on Tuesday, Oct. 30th at 7:00 p.m.
