NEW YORK, N.Y. (10/26/18)- Jesse Larkin totaled 18 kills and a .395 hitting percentage over two matches as the Kean University women's volleyball team dropped their regular season finale at Hunter College on Friday evening.
#2 Johnson & Wales 3, Kean 1 (25-20, 15-25, 16-25, 16-25)
The nationally-ranked Wildcats (26-1) extended their winning streak to 26 matches with the 3-1 defeat of the Cougars. Despite the loss, Kean (16-14) handed JWU their first set loss in 12 matches as the Wildcats last set loss came in a 3-1 victory over Bowdoin on Sept. 22nd.
The Cougars took advantage after three straight attacking errors propelled them to the16-13 lead. Kean never surrendered the lead and took the 25-20 victory with a .312 hitting percentage.
JWU answered by sweeping the next three sets, which included no more than five errors and a .500 hitting percentage in the fourth set.
Kate Walker collected 16 kills and a .432 hitting percentage for JWU.
Hunter 3, Kean 0 (17-25, 15-25, 16-25)
The Hawks (22-8) dominated wire-to-wire in the straight sets sweep of Kean (16-15), 3-0. Hunter hit .341 as a team with 37 kills and just nine errors. Larkin totaled a team-high seven kills with a .412 hitting percentage, while Brett Harper totaled six kills and five digs. Amanda DeLio collected seven digs for the Cougars.
Marlena Budna finished with 11 kills and a .667 hitting percentage.
Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 30th, hosting the Pioneers of William Paterson University at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the NJAC Tournament.
