GLASSBORO, N.J. (11/1/18)- Vikki Stec finished with a match-high 14 kills and a .357 hitting percentage as the #3 Kean University women's volleyball team advanced to their second straight New Jersey Athletic Conference championship match with a semifinal sweep of #2 Rowan University, 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-22) on Thursday evening.
Zoe Strozewski totaled eight kills and a .583 hitting percentage for the Cougars who improve to 18-15 overall. Jamie Shirtz tallied six kills for the Profs who finish their season at 17-16 overall.
Kean advances to Saturday's championship game, where they will host the #4 Red Hawks of Montclair State University at 1:00 p.m.
Kean dominated throughout hitting north of .250, while the Profs barely hit above .100. The Cougars also had a solid night on the defensive end with 50 digs, including double-digit collections from Kortnee Nelson (15) and Brett Harper (11).
Stec finished with at least four kills per set and five apiece in both the first and third sets.
Kean set the tone with a .353 percentage in the 25-15 opening set victory. Harper served for six straight points as the Cougars stretched their 18-14 advantage to 24-14 in a blink of an eye. The second set saw both squads trade the lead early before Kean answered with a 19-11 run to end with the 25-19 victory. In a fairly tight final set, Brianna Calvano was on the receiving end of the final two points with a service ace and an assist to Harper in the 25-22 victory.
Tonight's victory marks Head Coach Don Perkins 199th career win. On Saturday, he will look to capture number 200 and his second straight women's volleyball title when the Cougars square off with #4 Montclair State University in the NJAC title game at 1:00 p.m.
