Women’s Volleyball Bows Out of NCAA Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (11/9/18)- Jesse Larkin and Zoe Strozewski combined for 23 kills as the Kean University women's volleyball team fell to Wesleyan University (Conn.), 3-1 (14-25, 9-25, 25-23, 20-25) in their NCAA Tournament First Round matchup at Johnson & Wales University on Friday afternoon.

Mia Hogan finished with 14 kills for the Cardinals who improve to 18-5 overall and will face the winner of Springfield and Maine Maritime on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Vikki Stec totaled seven kills for the Cougars who finish the season at 19-16 overall.

The higher seeded Cardinals dominated the opening two sets, hitting above .300 in both. Kean didn't go quietly as the Cougars hit .200 and captured the third set, 25-23. Larkin and Strozewski totaled eight kills in the set victory.

The fourth set saw Wesleyan jump out to an 8-3 lead and pushed their advantage to 16-9. The Cougars clawed their way back to a 19-16 deficit but couldn't manage to get any closer as the Cardinals hit .350 in the final set.  

Brianna Calvano handed out 33 assists and 13 digs. Brett Harper totaled seven kills, while Michelle Froehlich added three kills. Kortnee Nelson collected 17 digs in the loss.

Kean hit .138 for the match, while Wesleyan totaled .290.
